Immersion

Full-immersion brewing — French press, AeroPress, and Clever dripper — where coffee steeps in water before you separate the grounds.

Immersion brewing is the most forgiving way to make great coffee: the grounds sit fully submerged in water for a set time, then you separate them — by pressing (French press, AeroPress) or opening a valve (Clever dripper). Because every particle steeps for the same duration, immersion is consistent and hard to mess up, which makes it ideal for beginners and travel.

The trade-off is body. A French press uses a metal mesh that lets oils and fine particles through, giving a heavy, rich cup; the AeroPress adds a paper filter and pressure for something cleaner and faster. Dial in your ratio and steep time with our guides and the Brew Ratio Calculator, and you’ll get the same cup every morning.
